Entrevista a Elizabeth Hoyt

HT: You have BA in anthropology, right? What made you start writing? (É licenciada em Antropologia, certo? O que a levou a começar a escrever?)
Elizabeth Hoyt: Yup, I have a BA in anthropology. It’s pretty much useless in the real world. ;-) I started writing because when my youngest child entered Kindergarten my mother strongly hinted that I should get a “real” job. Since I have literally no job skills I thought I’d try writing and if it didn’t work out in five years then I’d go and wear pantyhose in some awful cubicle job. Fortunately the writing worked out. (Sim, sou licenciada em Antropologia. É praticamente inútil no mundo real. Decidi tentar a escrita.

HT: Where do you get your ideas to the books?
Elizabeth Hoyt: I have no clue. None. They just come to me. Sometimes I can point to a movie or something that gave me a germ of an idea, but really most of them just appear, usually when I’m showering.

HT: How does your writing process works: believe in inspiration or have a pre-arranged time to write?
Elizabeth Hoyt: Hahaha, inspiration! *wipes tears of laughter from eyes* No, if I waited to be inspired to write I’d be a grandmaster at Plants vs. Zombies and have no books to show for it. I write to deadlines. If I don’t have a deadline I’d probably not write.

HT: Of all his books, you can choose the one that gave him more pleasure to write?
Elizabeth Hoyt: Hmm. Well, I really enjoyed writing DARLING BEAST because of the dialogue and because Lily is a writer herself. I got to slip in some fun writerly quips (Hmm. Ainda tenho presentes algumas piadas bem divertidas).

HT: What changed in your life after the release of the first book?
Elizabeth Hoyt: Not much after the first. After the third, however, I got a contract that seemed very big for me at the time and I realized that I could be a full-time writer (which I already was. HA!) and make a real living doing something I loved. It was a really, really nice feeling.

HT: I assume you also enjoy reading. What are your favorite writers? (Deduzo que também goste de ler. Quais os seus escritores preferidos?)
Elizabeth Hoyt: Of course! I discovered Dean Koontz just this year and went through an Odd Thomas phase. I also like Jo Nesbo, Jennifer Ashley, Christina Dodd, Nalini Singh, Jim Butcher, and Eloisa James, to name just a very few of the authors I auto buy. ;-) (Claro.

HT:  Finally, what are your writing projects for the future?
Elizabeth Hoyt: After DARLING BEAST comes DEAREST ROGUE (out May 2015) which has blind but vivacious Lady Phoebe pitted against (with?) her dour bodyguard, Captain James Trevillion. Speaking of enjoying writing, some of the dialogue between these two made me laugh out loud.
After that I’m doing a yet-unnamed Maiden Lane book in fall 2015 with Asa Makepeace and a heroine who makes her first appearance in DEAREST ROGUE. Stay tuned! Fiquem atentos).
